Flashopen developed the Pregnancy Safe in consultation with obstetric physiotherapists and midwives to identify the treadmill features that specifically matter for safe prenatal exercise — and those that require modification from standard fitness treadmill design to better serve this user group. The most structurally significant adaptation is the running belt width: at 540mm, the Pregnancy Safe’s belt is 60 to 100mm wider than most home treadmill belts, providing the additional lateral stability margin that pregnant users require as their center of gravity shifts with advancing pregnancy and balance adaptation is ongoing throughout gestation. The ultra-stable low-center-of-gravity frame uses a wider base stance — 700mm between the outer edges of the support feet — than Flashopen’s standard home treadmill frames, reducing tip sensitivity in the lateral direction that a pregnant user’s balance compensations can produce. The handrail safety bar is a full-perimeter wraparound design — extending around the front and both sides of the walking position rather than only at the front console — providing continuous grip support within reach regardless of which direction the user needs to stabilize. The 4-zone cushioning deck focuses maximum absorption under the heel-strike and midfoot-loading zones — the foot positions bearing the greatest impact during walking — to minimize the joint loading that increases with gestational weight. Speed is limited to 6 km/h — within the moderate-intensity walking range appropriate for prenatal cardiovascular exercise — and starts at 0.5 km/h for careful session initiation.
